The Santa Monica Village Trailer Park is a throwback to another time, when living at the beach was cheap and easy.
Those days have long since passed for most of pricey Santa Monica, and they may be over soon for its Santa Monica Village trailer park.
On Tuesday the City Council is scheduled to take up a proposal to raze the park's 47 aging tin trailers and replace them with multiple-story buildings containing more than 450 apartments and condominiums.
Residents, who pay monthly rents of about $370 to $410, say there is simply no other place left in town where they can afford to live.
The developer, who promises to find them similarly priced accommodations, says it is no longer economically feasible to operate such a modest mobile home park.
