1.8 Ford Focus TDCi DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) Question?

I believe my DMF is pretty much dead, makes terrible noises on engine start up and turning the engine off, but only if the clutch isn't to the floor, if the clutch is down it starts fine with no noises.

Anyways, I took the car to the garage and the bloke said it sounds like my DMF is failing and it's going to cost an arm and a leg to replace it, then mentioned something about a conversion kit so it's just a single flywheel, or something to that effect, I don't really understand anything about cars.

If I were to get this conversion, what differences in the drive am I likely to see? If any at all

As I've read on some sites it's just going to destroy my gearbox faster and it's going to make the drive terrible, make the engine sound like a tank and possibly make the clutch pulse even more than it currently does, but the head coach engineer at my place of employment says its the best thing I can do for the car but then didn't bother to explain why.

So any help on this would be kindly appreciated and I may add detail onto this question when answers come in to ask even more information

*Note, this is also in Maintenance and Repairs section as I'm not sure if the conversion is the same on all makes of cars, or if its different from make to make.
