09 SG Windshield Question

I'm 6'3 with a 10 in. LRS on a stock seat. Works O.K. but could probably use another inch or two. Have slight buffeting. Also use an air baffle which helps. All in all, I'm satisified with it.

I also have the 6.5" KW and I love it. I'm 6'3" but probably have the worst posture for riding. I tend to slouch. That may have a factor.

6'2 here on an '08 Ultra with stock seat. I have the 9.5" Clearview w/ recurve in dark tint. I could not stand to look through the top edge of the stock shield but liked the coverage it provided for me and my passengers. I ran an 8" straight shield which worked well until about 55- 60 mph at which point I had to slouch down to see. The buffeting would shake my head so much it was very difficult to see while sitting up straight. I went back to the stock shield but the distortion drove me nuts.

I ordered the 9.5" Clearview w/ recurve knowing I could install and test ride the shield and return it if I wasn't happy. As it turns out I am extremely satisfied with the height as it is well below my line of sight but provides the same wind coverage as the stock 12" for both me and my wife. The kids are too short to really tell a difference from the stock, but my daughter, 14, says she got some turbulence from the 8" straight shield.

I ordered a blemish shield from Clearview to avoid the wait for new and never did find the blemish they claimed to see. A buddy's dad rides an '09 FLHT with an 8" Clearview w/ recurve and has reported no buffeting. He is 6'0 or 6'1 so I guess an inch or two can make a difference.

ETA: My sig pic is with the 8" straight shield solid black.

This is the info I've pretty much been looking for. Alot of people talk about the height and all, but no one has talked much about the tinting.

emwolb, how would you compare LRS's medium gray tint to the original SG 4" tint? lighter? darker? Also, how thick is the LRS?

Others, I'm also looking at the Freedom Shield and wanted to know about their tint and whether they are hardened or not.

Thanks,
Odie

I have the LRS ultra 8" dark gray on a 2011 Street glide with a stock seat, and I'm 6'1". I should have ordered the 9"as I see way over the 8"and get the slightest bit of buffeting at high speeds. I also notice a lot more wind coming up from by the floorboards now that the wind is being redirected, and that wind goes right up my nose. Overall I'm happy with my LRS but I wish the dark gray was darker as it has a brownish tint to it. With the stock windshield I hated riding above 65mph, because of all the buffeting. With the LRS I found myself riding over 80-85mph before I noticed the wind up my nose getting really annoying, and the slight buffeting of my helmet. At the speed limit it was amazingly more comfortable than the stock 4" windscreen.
