im supposed to be fixing this bike for a guy, it's an 08 ttr 125 yamaha dirtbike.

it had some OLDDD gas in it.. he bought it brand new in 2008, and rode it once and had back surgery and never rode it again. from what i gather, he had someone else work on it a little bit to try to get it running, but the extent of what he did is unknown.

I dumped the gas completely, put a new plug in it, and put a brand new battery in it and it wouldn't start.

so i popped the carb off, cleaned it out thoroughly, there was no dirt or crud built up, just a little bit of slime that i got rid of, and put it back together.

it STARTS, but the only way it will is if i put my fingers over the air inlet of the carb and have the choke on. it wont stay running more than a few seconds. when it does run, of course it still smells like old gas, and after every start, i clean the plug which is black with crud and wet.

it is obviously flooding, but thats most likely because i have to cover the carb almost completely blocking the air to get it to start.

what do i need to do to this thing to get it running?
valve clearance? the guy only rode it once, it's a brand new - 3 year old bike, and i stated specifically that i did clean the carbs. like... completely.... to specify,

i blew the entire thing apart and used tools and an air compressor and carb cleaner, and everything you're supposed to do..

im not a novice carb cleaner, believe me.
by the way, thanks for the measurements.... that -is- useful.
