Ditto. There will always be bigger faster cooler bikes. Find the one that fits, does 90% of all you want, and keep it. There will never be a 100% bike IMO.
 
Beyond the M, looking at other cruisers that I like, every 10 additional foot pounds of torque or 10 more hp costs another $1000 or more. I can do a lot with $1000 - or more.

And then when you do the math, bigger cruisers with more power equate to essentially the same weight/torque/hp ratio as my M. They're just not as fun to ride as the M. Pay all you want for cruiser style and to say you've got a ____ cc bike. I'll take the M.

Not having a rear disc brake and a aggressive leaned-forward riding position, I wouldn't want my M to go any faster. Everybody I've ridden with over the past 2 1/2 years has either managed to keep up with me or had had trouble keeping up with me.
 
Don't get me wrong, the M is a great bike, with a proven powertrain and great looks, and it handles pretty well also. But I have to agree with the reviewers: if a bike is going to look that bad ass, it should BE bad ass. The M50 does the quarter mile in 15.49 seconds, while other 'muscle cruisers' like the M109r, V-rod, VTX1800, Warrior, and Hammer turn times between 11.6 and 12.9 seconds. Even the S50 and S83 make it in 13.3 and 13.6 seconds. If the M50 even had S50/ Intruder 800 speed and power I'd buy one, but as long as the M50 only outruns the C50 by 12/100th of a second in the quarter mile, and it looses to the S50 by 30 bike lengths, it will never be on my list. Put the S50 or S83 motor in it and I'd buy one today.
 
LOL! You should get your quarter mile times from the actual magazine tests, not from what people write on the forum. LOL!

Several magazines tested the M50, and all got times in the mid 15s. Motorcycle Magazine tested the "50s" side by side and got 15.49 for the M and 15.61 for the C. The same testers got 13.30 for the S. Even Suzuki only claims times in the mid 15s for the M. Hell, a guy on this site with a heavily modified M50 posted his time sheets, and he was right at 15 seconds with exhaust, intake, fuel system, and other mods. No way that a stock M50 turned a 13.99.
I test rode an M when it first came out, and while I did not run it at the track my 'seat of the pants' meter told me all I needed to know: having owned S50s and S83s, and tested muscle cruisers like the V-rod and Warrior, it was obvious the M50 was not even close to even the slowest of these other bikes. Try a real power cruiser, and you'll see what I mean. The M50 is a great looking, nice handling bike, but the power is not at all impressive.
 
So CycleWorld isn't an actual magazine? I own an M50 and a car that is comparable in "magazine" speed. I have tried a real power cruiser. I know it's slower than a full bore power cruiser. I also know it's faster than 15 in the quarter.

I even supplied the link for the guy running PCIII, intake and exhaust (which is not heavily modded). Not even trying he ran 14.
 
LOL! No, the magazine is a magazine. What was cut and pasted was from the magazine's forum. And the time slips linked to show 14.91 seconds, not 14.0 seconds. That's a difference of nearly a second, which is about 12-14 bike lengths. He cut a half second off the factory time, about what you'd expect with those mods.
When the professionals, at the track, with timing clocks and test gear, and even the manufacturer say the bike runs 15.49 in the quarter, I believe them over what you claim to 'know', especially when what you posted doesn't back you up. Go to the track, run the quarter, and see for yourself.
I've ridden the M50, and compared to an S83 is is much, much slower, and the S83 barely slips below 14 seconds in the quarter mile. And even that is pittifully slow compared to a 'fast' cruiser like an M109r or V-rod. Hell, if any of us really wanted to go fast we'd buy a sportbike. The M50 is what it is: a great looking, nice handling mid-sized displacement cruiser with more than enough power to get around. But it is not fast.
 
And I will take what you 'know' with as much faith. You didn't read everything, or choose not to address it all. That's cool. But what have you posted to back up what you say? Should I put more faith in your seat of the pants? Not likely.

And yes I should have said 14s. Not 14. As soon as I figure a good way to get my numbers on the bike, I'll take it to the track. Because I am curious. If my non bike racing self can get low 15s, it's a 14 second bike at sea level.
 
Why does anybody care about time slips? I mean REALLY! It's a cruiser, not a power cruiser, not a sportbike. Sure it has styling cues from both, but it's an 805 cc Street Machine. The only thing it does particularly well is look good.

1: It handles better than most cruisers i've ridden, but nothing like a sport bike
2: it's more comfortable than any sportbike i've ridden, but nothing like a bagger
3: It's faster of the line than my buddy's 1300 (although that required some money/parts) but not faster than a gixxer

It's just a good lookin' cruiser. If you're racing this thing at the track...i laugh at you. It belongs on the street, sometimes on the highway, even occasionally on gravel roads...but let's be honest, it has no business on the track.

Go ahead and laugh at me then. It has as much business on the track as the kids in their mini-dragsters, 4-wheelers, and those with the gixxers. I ride my bike to have fun and enjoy the ride. On the street, at the track, in the twisties, on the straights....if I'm riding, I'm smiling. Some folks have always cared about making their run faster. Competition can be a good wholesome source of fun. Sorry you can't appreciate that fact, and I feel sorry for you (rather than laugh) because you can't.
 
Easy now killer. Nobody's knocking your hobby. In fact, I have a PCIII and a HyperCharger on order for the express purpose of going faster.

Don't feel sorry for me, and don't tell me what I do and don't appreciate....got it? I've invested thousands of hours and spent thousands and thousands of dollars on cars/trucks/bikes, all of them have spent their time on the track.
