Should I jump at a new '08 1098 for $14,750 or wait for the '09? Our riding season is over, so the '08 would be sitting in a box & I'd be paying insurance & interest on the loan for 4 monhts & be getting a year old bike, so the price would have to be a great deal compared to the '09. Does anyone have a lead on the '09's price yet & would there be any significant upgrades on the '09 (base model) beyond the small increase in displacement?

Hum... I think I would get a '09. Especially if you going with the S model. Of course I don't know for sure due to I'm a 848 man... but isn't the '09 like 10 more HP? Of course 1098 has a better sound and look as a number that 1198... IMO. I kinda wish they would continue to be named 1098... but thats just my .02 cents. Oh yeah upper comes in pearl if you like that color as I do. I do like the black belly pan one pearl white 848's, so if I had a 1198 I'd probably buy one in CF. However now no yellow.... which looked good as is. It is really up to you go with were you heart and well mind take you..... If it was all heart and no mind involved I'd still have bought a white 848, and also a Desmosedici RR

If you were thinking about the S model, I'd say go with the new 1198. But as the base model, get the old one, the differences are not substantial. Also the price you quoted is actually pretty high. You can get floor model 1098's for usually a grand less then that. I'd keep looking around, from what I'm reading $13,500 is about what you should be paying for an 08 1098 base.

The price for the 1098 sounds much better then the $19995 quote i got for the base 1198. I would get the 1098 and get a full termi with the race ecu and air filter. I got it dyno and i'm pushing 175.6HP.

If it were me, I would get the 1098 at a well discounted price over the 1198. You could save thousands and put it towards upgrades. Unless you have model year, CC and horsepower complexes?
You really can't go wrong with either bike!! They are both fine machines!!!

Hey Tye,
Welcome to the Dark Side!! Glad to see you come over here!!

Although some one has been telling Chet a bucket of crap with his HP figures (just remember you only know what you've been told) he has a very valid point, you could do a lot of mods, performance and dress up with the savings on a run out 1098. If you wait until 2009 and find a new 2008 1098 you could save a heap.

At the end of the day if you really think you will use the extre 6% hp and 9% more ftlb buy it.

If not, get a bargain, get some pipes, a PCIII, some hi comp pistons and have the same power and change left over to really dress it up. You might even come out ahead.

Just a thought.
