'07 Fork Oil Change

Several have reported very nasty fork oil coming out after just a few thousand miles. In my case I am wanting to change to a heaver wight fluid to stiffen up the front end. The stock "E" fluid is suppose to be 10W. The SE Performance Fork Oil "Heavy" is suppose to be 15W which will slightly stiffen the front suspension and improve steering and ride while reducing bottoming out. Then there the SE Racing Fork Oil "Extra Heavy" is suppose to be 20W. Some say this is to stiff for a touring bike.

great info. feels weird that i feel required to have the dealer do stuff on my 08 to keep from voiding my warranty. but at seventy five bux an hour???? yeow corndoggies that one can hurt. think i'm gonna do it exactly the way you did it other than drilling and tapping a hole for a pipe plug in the top fork cap nut. that way i can screw in a ****** brass fuel line fitting in perhaps 3/8 inch dia. will find out when i get that far as to which size will fit. then after the refill, replace the ****** fitting with a pipe plug, sealed, might just work and be easier yet. will chuck the cap nut into the lathe so it'll be centered also. any thoughts?

thank you for the information, and a great write up as to the directions as to how we can do some more of the work at home. feels like even though my 08 streetglide is paid for, harley still owns part of it, cause i gotta do stuff that keeps within warranty guidelines. i can see now why harleys service departments stay so busy, cause they tend to discourage anyone from working on their own bikes. another year and a half, and i'll be out from under the warranty cloud. yoo hooooo

iclick in tried the 36 mm and it was way to big. went for a 33mm to small went to 35 to big. 34 to small! so i went sae and 1 3/8 fit just rite! got 1 at northern tool for around 12$ used it to remove an d replace then returned the tool for full refund! told the clerk what i did and they said no problem as long as it wasnt scarred up!

I just changed my fork oil today I followed iclick instruction and did it just like he said
except when I was at the harly store to buy the oil there was a guy there who said he had changed fork oil in his and his brothers a few times. he said if you raise the front wheel off the ground the forks will extend and they will drain real fast and take oil without any pumping up and down. I did that and he was right.

also iclick was right on about the harley wrench that comes in the ultra tool kit
it is a flat stamped wrench with a 36mm end
