'07 Fork Oil Change

I just checked the wrench included in the bike's tool kit (stock HD), which is the one I used to remove the fork top plug. It is exactly 36mm (1.417"), and if you used a 1 3/8" (1.375") socket my 36mm must've been a tad oversized, although I don't recall that being the case. Anyway, this wrench also fits my 36mm axle nut, FWIW. The 1 3/8" socket sold at Dennis Kirk says it'll fit any 35, 37, and 41mm fork cap--but I don't see how it would fit a 37 or 41mm plug. If the plug is exactly 1 3/8" it should only fit a 35mm plug.

Any of you doing this job, please measure the plug's socket size. I'm curious. Next time I remove the insert I'll to it, too.

Accessing the cap from the front with the outer fairing removed is almost impossible, if that's what you're referring to. It's much more accessible with the fairing insert pulled aside instead, which is the plastic housing for the ignition and other switches. Even from that angle it is still a tight fit for any wrench, and that's why the stock HD wrench works so well. It's a short, very thin box-end wrench.

To gmc, and IAMSWUTIAMS,
iclick stated in his write-up a socket will not fit, and needed to use a 36mm wrench.

What socket are you referring to that fits?

Just out of curiosity, the service manual says to change the fork oil at 50k miles. Are you at 50k on a 07 model already? My 05 FLHRCI only has 17k on it so I have aways to go before I change mine (and I'll do it myself).
