06 FLHTCi losing power at cruise?

My '06 FLHTCi is showing some unwelcome behavior: it loses power after about 20-30 miles over 70mph. During the interstate run home yesterday, I couldn't maintain 80 mph, and full throttle was giving me some funky sounds, like the engine wasn't completely happy with the mixture. When I pulled off, the engine would would not idle and kept dying until it cooled off about 15 minutes later.

I know this is all vague, but maybe someone will recognize the constellation of symptoms.

2006 FLHTCI bone stock, 58,000 dealer maintained miles. Chevron Supreme 91 octane (California summer mixture), fresh Mobil 1 V-Twin synthetic oil, about 275 pounds load (rider and tools), 90 degrees, slight uphill, 18 mph headwind.

Thanks for your input!

As stupid as this may sound , it will get you started on the lack of fuel possibility anyway.
Next time the bike does this , pull over if you can and slowly remove the fuel filler cap (with the engine off) and listen for a "sucking" noise.
This can indicate a plugged fuel cap vent and will do what you describe.
Then continue on and see if it seems ok for 30 miles or so.
If the tank can't "inhale" so to speak , it can do this to you.
I have seen this on one bike and a couple cars in the last few years.
Usually a problem like this , over time and miles can be traced back to something weird like this.
Just a thought and a cheap thing to try.
If it doesn't help , tell the repair shop you tried it anyway and they'll know which direction to look.

Your already using Chevron fuel, so I can't readily recommend the use of their fuel injector cleaner as that is their additive which is already in use so I don't think it will help. Try the cap vacuum thing first as it's a quick and easy test. other than that, I'm stumped too. I have an 06' also, so it's something I wish to keep up with.
Please post the remedy when you find it. Thanks!
