I have a 04 Dodge stratus and I read my manual and it states that the timing belt does not need to be replace until 96,000 miles. However my question are these free running engines or interference engines. I know this make a difference if the belt breaks.
Yes, both engines available for that year were interference type motors, and if you have the 2.7l keep on top of your maintenance, they're notorious for catastrophic failures with lack of maintenance.
