03 Honda civic 103K miles?

Hi,

I am planning to buy Honda civic 03, with mileage of 103K. I heard that after 100K, Honda civic needs major parts repairing/replacement like timing belts, water pump...etc. Is that true? Car looks good to me, but I am worrying about future unexpected maintenance/repairing cost. Will that be too much?

I have carfax report, but what other major things I should ask when buying this car?

Thanks in advance!

I love hondas. I have a honda civic, and I my understanding is the time belt should be replaced every 60 thousand miles. I did mine earlier this year. It's a great car, but any car with high mileage is going to need repairs and maintenance. If you have the money spend, then do the preventative stuff. Call a honda dealership and talk to a mechanic on duty to see about their list of recommenced repairs for your car.
You will always have to do tires, breaks, etc.

Civics will run and run.
Yes - 103k miles - it's gonna need something, sometime.

Probably a good idea to do the timing belt/water pump at 120k - supposed to be every 60k. Ask if it's been done. If you're buying from a dealer - ask them to do it and include it in the price or split the cost with them because even if it was done, it's gonna need it pretty soon.

If you're buying from a private seller - ask when the last time was they replaced the timing belt. If they never have - ask them to do it now at their cost or see if they'll take $600 off the price. It should only cost you between $400 and $600 to have it done, but because it will take some of your time and save them time, you should ask for a little more that what you think it will cost.

Other than that - these cars won't require any more "regular" maintenance than any other 103k mile car. Usually - less.

I've got a 2000 accord - has needed nothing except radiator cap and thermostat - 130k miles now. Of course - the usual oil, belts, fluids, tires, brakes, etc. But nothing "extra" except the cap and thermostat.

Honda makes a good car - that lasts. Like any car - it will last longer if you take care of the regular maintenance and don't abuse it.

If you are looking for a car that doesn't require you to change the timing belt every 60-90k miles - your options will be limited. I know Saturns have a chain that lasts forever (or at least it should last to 300k miles). And other than a few other GM products, I don't know of any cars that have timing chains instead of belts. Certainly not any cars that are competitors of a Honda Civic.

It's a good choice.
Enjoy it.

any car above 100k needs a Professional person to take a look at it it might not need all of the above u mentioned but it could need different parts Honda's are pretty reliable but have a mechanic inspect it for you
