I want to make myself a spare key for my 2001 Jeep grand cheokee larado, but I know that alot of the newer cars and etc now have magnets in the ignition switch that require you ro order spares only from the dealership....Is this true on a jeep made in 2001?

I don't know if your Jeep key has the magnet in it but if it is one of the new fangled keys it will cost you around $85.00 to get the new one.

Yes on the 2001 it does have a chip in that car called Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS). But you can program a new key yourself as long as you have 2 keys. If not you prob have to bring it to a dealer or locksmith that may do it. Type in Sentry Key Immobilizer System in Google and a lot of the programming guide to do it your self.
