...about motor mounts? I've currently got my 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T with 98k miles on it in the shop. The reason...there's an extremely bad vibration that shakes the entire car when idling. It initially only occurred when the car was idling and in gear (and tended to be more resident when it was raining out) but now occurs when the car is in neutral. The car has yet to receive it's 60k tune-up and the mechanic mentioned that this NEEDS TO BE DONE first off. He quoted me $550 for plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and cleaning the throttle body. Is this a good price? Should I feel OK going ahead with it for that price?
Also, we spoke about the motor mounts being the cause as this is what I initially suspected as the culprit, knowing that they can be "problematic" on this car. What would be considered a reasonable price to have a mechanic replace the motor mounts?
Is it more likely that it's the motor mounts or the car simply needs a tune up being the culprit for the extremely bad vibration? I'm on a limited budget and with Christmas coming up I need to consider how much I can afford to spend on the car at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
By the way, from what I hear, this can be a 3 hour job mainly to get to the rear 3 spark plugs...
