I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX-L with the 2.3 liter VTEC engine.
I took my car to Autozone to see which code was causing my CEL. It was p1486. This code is for cooling system malfunctions - either low coolant or bad thermostat according to the Autozone definition of the code. I replaced the thermostat and I replaced the coolant. These are the only two "fixes" for this code. I then reset the CEL by disconnecting my battery for 10 seconds.
Two days later it came on again. My engine does not seem to be over heating, but every once in a while the needle on my dash showing the temperature will not move up smoothly - jumping up quickly sometimes. Though the temperature needle never goes above the "normal" position.
Could this be a sensor problem? Which sensor? Any ideas? Thanks.
