I have a 650 trail bike and many times I think I would have been better off with a smaller bike like a 250. The extra weight of the bigger bikes gets in the way of having fun all to often, but the extra acceleration is nice but not so needed most times offroad, but I'm no racer at my age.

Find a good used bike to learn on. I know you do not want to hear any rubbish about starting on an old standard or enduro but they are the way to go for a new rider. At your age, male with no experience insurance will be really high so do yourself a favor and find out about that cost before...

You already have the Yamaha so I say go for it. Once you learn how to ride, even on a rebel, the jump up to a bigger and more powerful bike is easy compared to what the rebel taught you. They can all kill you in the event of a crash anyhow.
