I think you have already identified it. If it only occurs in 5th gear it must be the gearbox. I would imagine that the bearings on that gear shaft are shot. What else can it be? If it were suspension, steering, or tyres and wheels you would be able to replicate it in 4th gear. Got to the the 'box.

Just scrape off the loose paint and use a good masonry paint. You only need stabiliser if the substrate is powdery, which I doubt your concrete cills are. Dulux Weathershield is what I would use. Not cheap, but it will stay put for a very long time.

JG is probably right. The fact that it happens only in those gears points to gearbox bearings on the way out. Mind you it may soldier on for a long time. If you want to keep the car and save replacing the 'box, I would replace the gearbox oil with the best you can buy, probably fully synthetic...

You could spend a lot of time and money trying to locate a fault like this that a dealer will find in 5 minutes. Ask for an investigation. You can then replace the faulty part(s) yourself if practicable, or get the dealer to do it.

Until you can get chain oil from a bike shop any oil will do! I would use ordinary motor oil. WD 40 is a bit thin for chain. Motor oil will protect in the interim.
