well considering LCD sales are above conventional tube tvs in both the US and Europe, and that most LCDs are HDTV and even some tube TVs can do 1080i, even if HDTV doesn't have a HUGE install base, most people who go to buy a TV nowadays get an HDTV.

I was under the assumption that most all TV's scale whatever they are fed into thier native resolution. My TV's does 1080p native, Im pretty sure it takes whatever signal it is fed, anywhere from 480i to 1080i, and scales it to 1080p. The only case where the display shouldn't have to do any...
