Good film, Hanks and Hoffman were great, but i personally felt that Julia Roberts was miscast, and quite frankly i thought her acting was sub-standard at best. It has a "unique" style of humour (the first 15 mins were pretty much wall to wall "jokes" that just didn't seem funny, and felt...

I think both the later versions of 'The Thirty Nine Steps' were far better than the original. I think most film buRAB wear rose tinted glasses when they view these nostalgic early films. Most were pretty dreadful, but great for that particular era, bearing in mind the technolgy available.

where did you find it? Ive downloaded 'it' a few times, but its always been the Charlie Daniels one which I already have.

The only reason to see it is for MC's portrayl of the singer, she is amazing as Piaf. The rest of the film is pretty messy. It's in French, so you will have to do the ever so hard thing of reading subtitles...

I was wondering if anyone has the dvd that was released on 4/10/2010 if they could tell me if its the uncut version of the 1976 series? I have read that earlier releases of the series had scenes cut

That's the thing. Gore doesn't necessarily make a good film. Think of Halloween for example. Minimal gore and yet one of the most popular and effective horror films.
