    Quality Charts (56k warning)

Since I am a nut for statistics, I have, over the past few days, compiled charts detailing the quality of animation for various companies over the years, as according to user votes on IMDB and TV.com. Procedure: The quality is based on user votes from both IMDB and TV.com, according to new...

Has the animation industry improved, stayed the same, or gone down since the '90s?

Oh, I'd say this is certainly a new era. The "Creator-Driven Cartoon" from the 90s is still around, but so much has changed - CGI prevailing in theaters, the "Saturday Morning" tradition evaporating, and the anime industry swelling (that happened this decade, right?) - that I can't see it as a...

Battle of Action Animation Venues: Who will be top in 2011?

As much as I hate this network now I see Cartoon Network being the kings during 2011 with Thundercats coming as well as other DC shows coming up with the strong friday lineup they aready have. I wouldn't count Nick and Disney out there getting the tools and the knowledge of how to use these...

Supporting Casts and Villains that Steal the Show

Me too. I think that character deserved his own spin-off show. :p Anyway one of bad guys I can think of that stole the show is Kevin 11 from Ben 10. I mean I really prefer Kevin 11 over the bratty 10 year old Ben 10 and Kevin being on the Alien Force spin-off proved his popularity. ;)

Characters you felt could have been portrayed deeper...

The entire cast of Gundam SEED Destiny. They're an entire set of stagnant, one-note, walking cliches and archetypes that didn't really push the potential of the story.

    ?A Book By Its Cover

Yup. Cartoons are an audio-visual medium, after all. Animation with good writing but horrid design is equivalent to reading an interesting book filled with typos and bad sentence structure. It's not always a bad thing to judge a cartoon by its artwork.

Do you feel sad that all the cartoons/shows you watched as a kid are now over?

I'm not a huge fan of The Batman either, but all the same I think we should avoid making pat assessments about which shows are good, bad or better than others, because that's all just opinion and opinions can and will differ. People stating their opinions as facts is how arguments get started...

Blog Talkback: Toons of the 2000s: Bottom 5 Cartoons

That's certainly true. The first movie mainly dealt with Mulan trying to see her own potential while sparing her sick father from fighting in a war. China's society was barely touched upon, other than women could not fight in the army. Mulan became much more of a role-model figure in the sequel...
