Aldebaran is probably my favorite right now. I don't differentiate a whole lot between DOOM genres though.

I thought this series was better then NGE by far. It had some elements that were in NGE but no mech anime is completely original. Even the first mech anime created took alot of ideas and plots from science fiction novels. If you pay attention to the story it actually makes more sense then NGE...

I agree, this is too difficult for me to decide because I was only born in 1988, and although I'm aware of music that came before then, it's hard to judge and compare when I didn't experience it fully.

i mistyped. when mathy music and breakdowns corabine the genre most people think of is mathcore (math being math obviously and core coming from hardcore which in the last 5 years has included waaay to many breakdowns) there.
