I thought Malcom In The Middle lost the plot very quickly. Modern Family is great very well written. The Middle is a slow burner it takes ages for it to get going, the first 10 or so episodes seem to be filled with nothing, however it does start to get going if you can give it a chance.

I love this film, unabashedly so. It's not the best film ever made in terms of writing but it's very well made, looks absolutely stunning, and is a true epic in every sense of the word. I tend to watch it once a year I adore it that much. :o
