I think it's definitely an oscar worthy performance. He was rather disturbing. I also don't know why some are moaning about the time length of the film, it went by fast for me.

A fantastic and vastly underrated gangster/prison film is the Jimmy Boyle story, "A Sense Of Freedom". Realistic and very brutal. They even film the "dirty protest" era. Gross. :(
