Okay, but wouldn't airing them on TV somewhere be good for ratings or does the copyright issue extend to airings. At the very least, I'd think that Toon Disney would be the best place to air the show since they air those Halloween themed films.

Johnny Bravo comes to mind. Not only did they add new characters (Pops and Carl) but they had new animation and sometimes a show loses it's luster once it changes the animation around (American Dragon: Jake Long).
