New air filter, tune up, fill up the tires to specified pressure, and free flowing exhaust system. Driving style is probably number one. Putting your foot in it at every light doesn't help gas mileage. If your model doesn't have overdrive, adding an overdrive transmission helps.

Take it to an auto parts store and have them put an OBD2 scanner on it and retrieve the code. My book says 1995 Camaro's have OBD2. Most vehicles don't have it until 1996. If it has OBD1, they can still retrieve the codes by putting in a paperclip and counting the flashes.
