Is it possible to retire as an enlisted person from the military without working?

LOL it sounds like you said, retire after 20 years not working ! That's hilarious. Though I know a few NCOs who are giving it a try... Yeah, you can live off a retirement check as long as you get to E8 and maybe do a couple a few years past 20. Trick is to live simply some place that is not...

Military families- How often do you hear from deployed soldier?

I used to call once a week and e-mail twice a week, my first tour. My second tour, I was not in such a great place mentally, and calling home made it worse, so I only called once a month or so. I still e-mailed several times a week though. That was Iraq. And that was my mission. Your boyfriend...

i have a question about going to the military. i need some help?

I think they are in the process of phasing out mandatory service. But I don't know if that's still planning or if it has already started. You don't HAVE to go, since you are living overseas. I would contact the Polish Consulate to find out for sure. I doubt they would fine you. The only problem...

    Military Designation?

Just mention it in the body of your correspondence. Or if you must put in the signature block, your rank doesn't matter anymore, so don't include it. (The first poster is right, you CAN include rank, if you retired after 20 years, but not if you just did four years and got out.) Just put Joe...

    Two Different Boot Camps?

Every branch of the military is different. In the Army, if you get your commission directly (doctors and lawyers) or if you are a graduate of a military academy (college, not high school) or ROTC, you come straight into the Army as an officer, and start your specialty training (infantry, or...

If Jesus was drafted to kill people in a war, would he dodge it?

He didn't dodge anything when the Romans came for him. He wasn't the dodging type. If they didn't grant him Conscientious Objector status, he would have chosen freely to go to jail and serve his time for refusing combat service.

Can i use my military id to receive a money order?

Military ID is valid ID for most things you'd use a state-issued ID for. I use it for everything but international travel, usually.

my bf is in boot camp and i know they give a hard time about stuff...?

No, that'll be fine. Just don't write anything sappy on the outside, our Drill Sergeants considered anything on the outside fair game. One girlfriend kept writing stuffy like "Lovey Baby I Miss You" all over her pink envelopes. That guy was teased.

My boyfriend made the mistake of sleepwalking the first 2nights of naval boot camp...?

Sleepwalking is not generally considered compatible with military service. He could wander off into a dangerous area of a ship in his sleep and get himself or someone else killed. He might be on his way home soon - that will be up to the Navy to determine. If he does get to stay, all...

After basic training in the army" Where did you get stationed"?

I went to language school. Then AIT. My first duty assignment was Fort Drum, NY. 25 miles from Canada. FREEZING. INSANE cold. But that's okay, we were deployed to Iraq most winters anyways. I wanted Germany or maybe Georgia or Virginia. I wasn't terribly happy with the geographic location. My...

Should I be as worried about Army Basic as I am? I'm kinda terrified.?

It's normal to be worried. But you aren't going to die there, and it's not physically impossible, so try not to obsess about it. Start working out now, and the physical part won't be a problem, since about half your class will show up completely out of shape.

what will cause a person to have flash-backs of the vietnam war? He served in

There might be a specific trigger. If you or he could identify what that might be, it might reassure both of you. Could well have been a movie scene or something on the news. Are the flashbacks while he is awake or asleep? Dreams are not uncommon at all among veterans. If they persist, they're...

Who would win in a fight? Basic Army or Marine Grunt?

LOL whoever got in the first shot, dork. Gunshot wounds kill.

Is there a maximum amount of months or times people in the Army can be deployed to Iraq?

There's no limit to the amount of months total you can be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. I served 27 months in Iraq over two deployments. I served with men who had served 40 or 42 months total, over three deployments. Next year a lot of people will start their FOURTH tours of combat. Maybe...

Attention Deficit Disorder and the Army?

Am posted current policy, so I'd go with that. You also have a case to make, being prior service - your record clearly demonstrates that you can adapt to Army service!

What happens after you go through the army's infantry basic training?

Your parents can't live with you unless they are your dependents (that means you are fully financially supporting them, not just sending a check every month.)
