I chose Weezer, I've hated pretty much everything they put out after Pinkerton, but F*CK, the Blue album is just amazingly good.

Relationship of Command is the best album between the two but overall I prefer TMVs amazing consistency of their album's quality.

I don't think they had a goal of "stripped down sound." Some of their music is stripped down, other compositions are very lush. I don't think they had much of a goal outside of making good music, whatever they felt good was at the time.
