EV-DO the 3G in CDMA, does take up a bit more battery usage than UMTS which is the 3G in GSM. However, in my experience, EV-DO can sustain data connections better under degraded signal conditions than UMTS.

So far, the only app where I haven't been able to get rid of the nag is the s60 facebook app however the full facebook site is beautifully fast on opera with the flash games being somewhat playable on skyfire. I haven't needed joiku on an s60 handset on att. Bluetooth tether works flawlessly...

did you click make sure "network authentication" you set it to "No"? if you do that, the last 2 options shouldn't show.

If your phone, the Droid Eris is on 2G, it should show 1X over the arrow bars sign, which is for CDMA RTT 1X. If you're in GSM and in 2G, you get an "E" for Edge or a "G" for GPRS. If you're not showing "1X", then you're not in 2G.
