I wouldn't go for it, although I wouldn't get a 250 either. You'll be bored in a week or two. I've had the 500R for about a month and want to get something more already. Also, there are tons of 250, especially ninjas, out there to buy used anyways, why buy new?

I've heard of people doing cross country trips on 250 sports bikes so you should be fine. I also live in So Cal and was thinking about doing a trip like that...but maybe just to Yosemite, then later to Oregon/Washington. Could you do me a favor and let me know how it went? I'd appreciate any...
