i dont know if the gt is the same but i did have a plain grand am and i found it was reliable but the seats were awful, felt like they were made out of cardboard

did you check fuel filter? other than that the only other thing i can think of would be the coil / ignition sometimes they can be a little weird, work fine one minute then the next no go , also once they heat up they can stop working
