Well i've just had a go at creating a animation using GIMP (first time)
The way I did it was by using layers.
To view the layers click on windows >> Recently closed docks >> Layers channels paths...
Start drawing on the first layer as normal then draw what you want to appear next on the next...
i'm gonna kick myself if the answer is really simple.
