    Native English speaker, are the words and phrase used only in writing?

    1: accommodating 2: obliging 3: a whale of a time The words and phrase above, I've found only in writing, but I've never heard them coming out of the mouth of speaker. Don't you use them in your everyday life? Do you use them only in writing? A pithy answer will be appreciated. Thank you.
