Do we still get that tough exercising after Basic and AIT?

Yes, you still exercise. You PT five mornings a week in most units. It's just that you only go for an hour or hour and a half a day, instead of several hours like in Basic Training.

Why don't army men wear bulletproof vest?

They do. And it saves a lot of lives. It doesn't always save their lives when they are blown into several pieces from an IED though...

question about being deployed in the army?

Generally, the more permanent your living situation, the more likely you are to be separated out. I've slept in mixed-gender transient tents while waiting for flights out of Kuwait and Iraq (military layovers can take several days!) I've slept in mixed gender situations out in the field, as...

Why do enlisted recruiters try to sell military service via the GI Bill?

The Marine Corps recruits HARD among very young kids. Most recruits are 18, unlike in the Army and Navy where the average age is about 21. Personally, I think 21 year olds do better in the military, but the Marines have their own (very young) culture. The GI Bill is a very good deal. A lot of...

Can the post-9/11 G.I. Bill pay for my GRADUATE study at University of Michigan?

Yes. Post 9/11 GI Bill only covers undergraduate tuition, so if your school does not have the "Yellow Ribbon" program, you may have to pay the difference between graduate and undergraduate tuition. But that shouldn't be a huge difference at a state school.

What do you do on weekends during boot camp at Fort Leonard wood?

No break. Saturdays are like any other day. On Sundays you can go to chapel services for an hour or two. And usually you spend several hours just scrubbing and cleaning things, with an hour or two of classroom type training or practice on Warrior Tasks. Maybe a PT session after dinner.

An question for anyone who has served or who is serving in the military?

It was good and bad. It changed my life. I regret some of it, but overall it was worth it and I'd probably do it again.

any recruiters (army or air force, whichever) know the answer to this?

The Army is less strict that the Air Force. Your problem is that not only did you have a history of mental health issues to start with, but you then lied about it to get in. Both are marks against you! I don't mean to poke at you, but why would you think that MILITARY hospital records would not...

Marine Corps Boot Camp and Army Basic Training question?

Army officer candidates coming in from the civilian world go to Basic Combat Training, THEN OCS. It's different in the Marines.

do i have to be in rotc in college to be a usmc or army officer?

You can apply to go to OCS and become an officer that way. You will need to go talk to a recruiter from both branches.

What, in summary, are people in the military generally in charge of, based on rank?

How many people a rank is in charge of varies wildly from service to service and from branch to branch. An E-4 in the Infantry in the Marines could be in charge of twelve people. In the Army's military intelligence, the equivalent of a potato. :) On the officer side, in the Navy, a Captain is...

what are the benefits if i join the army?

Go to college. Be smart about it and go to a state university, unless you can get a scholarship for a more expensive one. Take loads of science and math. Major in Pre-Medicine or at least something that has the same classes. http://www.goarmy.com/amedd/ Graduate with good grades. NOW call an...

Are DEP meetings enough to prepare physically for Navy boot camp?

One work out a week, while better than nothing, is not enough to improve much. You need to do two additional ones per week. Ask your recruiter for suggestions, I could give you all kinds of Army suggestions but they would not necessarily apply to your situation. It certainly sounds like you...

Will repatriation to the U.S. prevent me joining the Army?

I have no idea. Ask the consulate.
