I would say related because the car has a smart switch for the high beams and all that. sounds like when the column came loose it pulled loose a connector
I would check the speed sensor. I dont know where it lives in the Focus, on rear drive vehicles it is on the diff casting. When I have had problems like that, the sensor has died, easy to replace and wasn't expensive

I would use a throttle body type of system, from Holley or Edelbrock. They bolt on like a carb. You will need an electric pump and, in some cases depending on the vehicle, a return line. Summit and Jeggs sell them
