My dog learned it from the other dogs at the dog park. he will lift his leg while we are out waking, at the dog park, etc, but at home, he only squats.
First you need to find out if the camping area where you are going allows dogs. Most do not. If they do, he will have to be on leash at all times so being inside a tent shouldn't be a problem since you will have to have him leashed.
