all books are about life. ours, people we know, or fictional people. they are all about the human condition. write what you want.

well i would say your best bet is to go down to the country court house and find out who has owned the house. it will give you names and then you can look up obits from there. also in old buildings doors stick because of the temperature and because they have shifted just slightly as they settled...

yeah i would use something that works well with plastic. like the plastic fusion kind. also remember to tape and protect the windshield and anything that shouldn't get paint on or in it.
