As far as what to photograph...EVERYTHING..... It's the only way to get better along with reading material on lighting and camera settings like F Stops, Aperture, and Shutter Speeds. Keep doing nature if that's what you like. It's all about your own style not what you take a picture of.

First things first. Get known! Make sure folks in your town know that you are there and that you do photos. Post signs and flyers at local stores and such.
Second you'll need the proper equipment. Do you have lighting, props (if you do indoor), backdrops..... A place to shoot outdoors?

I would always recommend going to a local photographer who is just getting started and have them do the shoot. Your more likely to get them to do it for free to gain the experience or at least for a lot less money than a professional. This way you don't pay a bunch of money and you gain...
It depends on if you want to pay or get it free. If pay than what the other person said. If free than I always recommend 3. Photoscape.com, picasa.com and shutterfly.com
When I started I went onto eBay and found 1 continuous lamp and 1 flash lamp at a cost of only $50. I also purchase a White, Brown and Black Backdrop. There are also good backdrop and continuous lighting packages for about $100.
For professional like programs that are harder to figure out than building a car from scratch than I would say gimp. If you want simple, fast and good than I recommend photoscape.com, shutterfly.com, or picasa.com
