There are requirements for Time in Service and Time in Rank. If you are an exceptional Officer, you can get promoted "below the zone" one year prior to most others. Look up those terms on Google and also go to armyocs.com if you want more info. Military.com discussion board also has a ton of info.

Anyway, Army Combatives is largely based on Jiu-Jitsu, and also incorporates Judo throws. Wrestling is well known as being an advantage when you learn Jiu-Jitsu because you understand base (control opponent).
