I have found CD/DVD-R notoriously unreliable. Frustratingly so. The aluminum and dyes used in 'R' media begins oxidizing as soon as it is burned. I've had CD/DVD-R become unreadable in less than three months. Then there is the issue of compatible formatting between computers...yikes!

Since you already have the 18-200mm you might as well use it.
Keep in mind that venues of dance do not always allow flash. So you are going to really have to practice ambient light photography with your 18-200mm.
I would suggest the 50mm f/1.8 but, unfortunately, the D60 lacks a screwdriver...
Hasselblad H3D-50 is probably the highest resolution dSLR.

Liquid emulsion works on a variety of surfaces.
Assuming you are using positive Liquid Emulsion then for best acuity and contrast glass with white painted on the back works really well.
