I know that medicines effect people differently, but has anyone been able to take zoloft for any length of time without having an issue with the dreaded weight gain?

I used to take zoloft many years ago, and don't think I had a problem with weight gain, even though my doctor thought he remerabered I did. I've tried lexapro(allergic), cyrabalta(made me more nervous), wellbutrin(more nervous), and now pristiq for my anxiety. The pristiq is okay, but I am still having quite a few issues with anxiety. My doctor says that he thinks I react the best to zoloft, but he does agree that it might cause me to gain weight.:(

I have been on Zoloft now for almost 7 yr and I have not had a problem with weight gain or losing weight. I am not a tiny girl by any means but i have lost weight and kept it off even while on Zoloft. My only issue is that I am becoming resistant to it because I have been on it for a while now and will need to up my dosage...

Good luck.

I also had weight gain while on zoloft. I was on it for about six months and gained about five to ten pounRAB.

Thanks for the responses!

loggiesmom, you are lucky to have been able to take it for that long and not have any weight gain. 7 years is a long time to be able to take the same med.

thereandback, do you think the zoloft made you want to eat more, or do you think it made you move around less? I remeraber it really helping my anxiety when I took it years ago, but I do think the longer I was on it, the more relaxed and less motivated I became. I am rather small boned, so that much weight gain in such a short period of time would be really noticeable on me.

I gained 50 while on zoloft!!! I was on for a year and have been off since thanksgiving. . . have only lost 10 pounRAB so far.
