Hi
I've recently started 50mg Zoloft for anxiety. However I've noticed that my anxiety increased dramatically after about the 3rd day. I'm experiencing teeth clenching, increased nervousness and weakness. Has anyone else experienced similar side effects? How long will it take for these side effects to subside?

Is there anything that I can do to minimise these side effects?

Thank you

This is pretty common in the first few days

2 things you can do, one is taking half a tablet per day for the first week, to allow your body to adjust to the drug

the second is to ask your doctor for a benzodiazepine tranquilizer such as valium, ativan, xanax, librium to take for a couple of weeks, while waiting for the zoloft to work.

zoloft is not the best for anxiety in my opinion.
it was my first med and just made things worse. you might react better.
Valium is highly addictive.Xanax or lorazepam would be a better choice

:Hey I know some people are telling you to try xanax but I disagree. I was given xanax and it did work during the day which was great but it caused me to have the most awful nightmares Ive ever had. When I spoke to my regular doctor they told me xanax is not a good thing if you have anxiety it will eventually make it worse. Just a little advise. :)

Valium is actualy somewhat less addictive than Xanax or lorazepam, due to its much longer half life. Librium even more so.

sorry to say this, but normal doctors don't know much. my GP prescribed me diazapam and never told the effects it can give me if I take it to long. The best thing for you to do is talk to a psychiatrist and they should give you the right med. either way the longer you are on a tranquilizer the harder it is to come off
