Zegerid and stomach pain?

I was diagnosed with GERD in 2005 and was put on Protonix. It worked for several years then my doctor switched me to Zegerid last fall. All was fine until about Christmas time when I started getting these terribly painful gas cramps in my stomach. He told me to take the 40mg at night right before bed. I did that. A few weeks later it came back. He switched me to the 20mg right before bed. Now it is back again and I can't stand it anymore. I called my dr. and he said to try gas-x. Has anyone else had these symptoms? I can't stand this pain anymore. I've tried going a night without taking it. It's a little better but not really. Any advice?
 
Not much advise but questions: why were you switched to Zegerid? Was the Protonix not working? Maybe that was implied in your post and I did not understand. I took Zegerid and, though no stomach problems, it did nothing for me even though I took it as prescribed. I took OTC Prilosec and it gave me pains in the pit of my stomach after a week. I would ask if I can be changed to a different PPI that may not produce gas or those painful symptoms. There are many PPI's in the market to settle for one that does not work or produces painful side effects.
