Now that we're starting to see the extreme power of some Shikais (a la Shunsui and Yumichika) I'm starting to wonder just how deep some of the Zankpakdou's powers really reach. Heck, some of these Shikais are making Bankais look weak.
Now a few things to pop out here:
We know that fighters generally don't like ANYONE knowing the full depth of their power. This is often used as a plot building element and Bleach is no exception.We know that to maximize the potential of a Zanpakdou it typically takes a hundred years to learn Bankai and another hundred just to learn the full depths of that Bankai.That being said, we've seen A LOT of the Bankais and almost all of the Shikais now.
Ichigo's Shikai and Banki just seem remarkably weak compared other Shinigami so far.
The Anime, although off canon, is starting to drop some hints that Getsuga Tenshō actually can autonomously act on its own once released. This is kind of starting to make me think there's a whole other side to Zangetsu then we've seen so far.
Similarly, Ikkaku's initial release also seems remarkably underpowered. Except for the fact he gets a new type of weapon that most martial artists don't know how properly defend against, theres nothing special about his Shikai.
On the flip side, I am have a hard time fathoming where Zanpakdous like Shunsui and Yumichika are going to.
Heck, even Rukia's Zankpakdou Shikai abilities are fantastically strong. Her Bankai (when she finally is able to perform it) might rival Toshiro >.>
