I opened this phone up see where the cable is broken before I decide on what to do. But I see no breakage. Where should I be looking?

So which is it, exactly? Is it the WSOD, or flex cable? WSOD is software related, where the phone just stalls. The flex cable is just that, flex cable. If you can still receive calls, even though the phone has a white screen, then more than likely t is the flex cable. However, even a minute damage in the cable can make it nonfunctioning, where sometimes you may not notice it. Just buy a new flex cable and replace it. Just be careful when installing the new one and take your time.

Yep, white screen and can still receive calls. Any links to replacing this the cable. The only stuff I found was opening up the phone which I've done but not 100% sure on the connections.

BTW where can I get a cable besides ebay?

I'm sure there are other websites that sell parts. But below are the 2 sites I mostly buy parts from.

CNN.CN
gsm4world

It would be hard for me to explain for every step. Just that when dealing with the new flex cable, don't force anything and think things thoroughly. Even a slight mistake can tear the flex cable.

Thanks, I'm not sure what to do at this point. I can get a new phone for free and just pay $18 for connection fee with a 2 yr agreement.

And fix this phone and keep it as a backup.

OK, got my cable and have it installed but I can't remember where the little magnet goes. It somewheres near the switch/hinge but excatly where? Any ideas?

I have been bit by the WSOD bug. I am luckier than many -- I went about 18 months without a hitch(admittedly with light use and gentle handling) but since I got the white screen of death 4 days ago I can find no way to recover. From what I read on the web it appears to be a ribbon cable issue but does anyone know of a master reset button? Seems like a lot of these devices have a way to do a hard reboot to restore factory settings. I had a problem with my sound about a week ago that was resolved by the restore button in settings menu. I am trying to recreate the same keystroke sequence based on the product manual, but it is hard to tell if I am doing it correctly since my only feedback is the snowy WSOD. ARGGGG

From what sony tech support old me is you can try to do an online upgrade. You'll need a usb cable. It didn't help with mine. :(
I got a new flex cable and forked that up when trying to get it to snake through the hinged section of the phone. What a PITA, I've got another cable coming.

Alright before I fubar this cable how does it get routed? I see it gets looped in the hinged area but not 100% on how. Any tips, hints?

Dear Toadfish you wrote you open the phone and look the cable broken. But you never write what is the problem in phone. You should write problem of phone.
