The day's events inspired this thread. Don't let it die.

Mine:

Glycerine - Bush: Heard this song on the radio today for the first time in ages & it made me cry, again. Beautiful song, raw, speaks to a variety of situations. Personal meaning. YouTube - Bush - Glycerine

Fire and Rain - James Taylor: Always been one of my faves. You might leave angry, or forget to call, or just not be able to be there at the time that's needed. Sometimes there aren't second chances. YouTube - James Taylor - "Fire & Rain"

You Can't Always Get What You Want - Stones: "Immediate disqualification because of it's involvement with the Big Chill," Berry said one morning at Championship Vinyl. It should be immediate DQ, but it's in that film for a reason; and it speaks in beautiful poetry about losing someone, or something. And the music is gorgeous. It tried so hard in vain to be optimistic about the situation ahand, but you get it. YouTube - Rolling Stones - You can't always get what you want

Bell Bottom Blues - Derek and the Dominos: Self-spoken. Personal meaning. YouTube - Bell Bottom Blues - Derek and the Dominos

Flower in the Sun - Janis Joplin: Raw, honest, beautiful. Also self-spoken. YouTube - Janis Joplin - Flower in the sun

Backstreets: Bruce Springsteen- FrienRABhip, possibly love, and loss. YouTube - Bruce Springsteen: BACKSTREETS

Idiot Wind: Bob Dylan- "You'll never know the hurt I suffered/Nor the pain I rise above/And I'll never know the same about you/Your holiness, your kind of love/And it makes me feel so sorry." Just about sums it up. Not the best video of the song, but I wanted one of the 1992 performances because they really bring out the loss in the song: YouTube - Bob Dylan - Genova 1992 - Idiot Wind

Out There In The Night- The Only Ones- A bit lighter, but the simplicity really works for this one. "Sometimes I think of you/Out there in the night/You ain't here with me/And nothing seems right."

(Remeraber) Walkin' In The Sand- The Shangri-La's- Lost love, lost innocence...either way, it's a killer track. Runner up: Past, Present, & Future. YouTube - Shangri-Las - Remeraber (Walkin' In the Sand)

The Who- Tea & Theatre- Even though this really should be credited "Townshend/Daltrey," this is an amazing track. It's really more about aging, but there's definitely some loss there:

Lean on my shoulder now
This story is done
It's getting colder now
A thousand songs
Still smoulder now
We play them as one
We're older now
All of us sad
All of us free
Before we walk from this stage
Two of us

Will you have some tea
Will you have some tea
At the theatre with me?

Honorable mention: Lou Reed, Magic & Loss. "There's a bit of magic in everything and then some loss to even things out."

For No One-The Beatles
Your day breaks, your mind aches
You find that all her worRAB of kindness linger on
When she no longer neeRAB you

She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn't
feel she has to hurry
She no longer neeRAB you

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years!

Racing Like a Pro-The National
Your mind is racing like a pro, now
oh my god it doesn

Fade to Black:BY Metallica. This song was written after all the banRAB' equipment got stolen in 1984. Not a very emotional loss, because those material things could be replaced, unlike the passing of a loved one or close friend. But still technically a song about a loss, so mch to the point to where the lyrics say:

I have lost the will to live;
simply nothing more to give;

almost implying suicidal thoughts(In my opinion)

To Live Is To Die: By Metallica. The entire solo was dedicated to former bass player Cliff Burton. You can really feel the emotion in this one.

And those are the only 2 songs that come to mind at the moment, I had more when I started typing, but I forgot as I went on.

I like both of these songs equally, I dont like Fade To Black more than TLITD, as a matter of fact, i dont even really like the song that much. I just put it there because thats all I could think of.
