Your Top 10 Animated Movies and Why

This is inspired by the Top 20 Favorite Movies in the Entertainment Forum. This is Toon Zone after all, so I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thinks. A lot of the time we see lists that we disagree with but don't state our own. So this is your chance, what are you 10 favorite animated films and why?

10. The Polar Express - Surprise, surprise. This is one of the most underrated animated movies ever, even if it is a newer one. It means a lot to me because it reminded me of the spirit of Christmas when I was beginning to forget it. And people can say what they want about the Motion Capture Animation, but I think that it fit the movie perfectly.

9. Pinocchio - This is the second Disney Movie ever made and to be honest, it's been a while since I've seen it. While it may be ranked higher if I'd seen it more recently, that doesn't take away the fact that it is extremely well-done and really brought a classic story to life. Snow White did too, but I like this one more due the variety of the story and characters.

8. Shrek - The highest ranked Non-Disney movie. It may be the funniest Animated Movie that I have ever seen. I can watch it over and over again and it will still be hilarious. The excellent voice acting also helped make the movie what it was.

7. Nightmare Before Christmas - I have fond memories of this film. I know that sounds a little bit screwed up, but I would watch it all the time when I went to my cousin's house. I loved the overall concept of going into different holiday worlds. And I've always thought that the character designs were great.

6. Finding Nemo - There are some great Pixar movies out there, and while I usually rank older movies higher, this one makes the list. Ellen DeGenerous was a fantastic voice actor and Dory was the funniest part of the movie. But not only the humor was great, it was also a very heartwarming story.

5. Aladdin - You would never know that it was a rather new Disney movie in retrospect due to how highly it is ranked every where. It has one of the best hero-villain combo in any movie in Aladdin and Jafar. The rest of the characters are great too.

4. The Jungle Book - This was one of the first movies I ever watched. I loved it then and I love it now. I used to wander around my house singing "Bare Necessities" to my family and everyone who visited.

3. Peter Pan - This is the, not just animated, but movie in general that inspires me the most. I will never forget the feeling that I got when I rode Peter Pan's Flight in Disneyland for the first time. This movie has a lot of magic in it that makes it great.

2. Alice In Wonderland - I like the movie more than the book. I love the Disney touch that was put into every one of the characters and it made the movie even more entertaining and interesting. The oddity of it is the prime reason I like it so much.

1. Fantasia - Music and Animation are 2 of my favorite things in the world. In this film, both were brilliant and even more-so when they were put together. Each individual short was stunning because of this. Words can't describe it, so they didn't. None of the shorts had dialogue. Seriously, this movie revolutionized what Animation is today and means a lot to cinema in general.

Honorable Mention: The Phantom Tollbooth, Beauty & The Beast, Ratatouille, Monsters Inc, Yellow Submarine, An American Tale

This is my Top 10. There are some I can't really tell why I love them. I just do.

10. The Nightmare Before Christmas

9. Who Framed Roger Rabbit

8. The Rescuers

7. Oliver and Company

6. Space Jam

5. Melody Time (Had a VHS of this movie and spent every night watching it. It has great music and the animation is just awesome)

4. Ice Age

3. Monster's Inc.

2. Ratattoille (Great animation, great colours and a great story is what an animated movie should be about. Loved this movie when I saw it at the cinema.)

1. Fantasia (The music and the scenes are epic for me.)

There are only some I can explain. The others are good because they have a great story and great animation.

EDIT: By the way, did Fantasia ever air on a Disney Channel?

10. Persepolis - Has there ever been a movie like this one? It's so unique, so moving, and so entertaining.

9. Tokyo Godfathers - An underrated anime that utilizes the medium in innovative, subversive ways while telling an extremely sweet story.

8. Toy Story 2
- As far as sequels go, this is one of the few that outdoes the original. That Pixar got it put together on such short notice is a miracle.

7. Big Old Ghibli Tie (Nausicaa, Laputa, Grave of the Fireflies, Porco Rosso, and Ponyo) - While Spirited Away is always my top Ghibli film, my pick for second-best heavily fluctuates depending on my mood. All masterpieces.

6. Akira - What Citizen Kane is to live-action film, Akira is to animation.

5. The Nightmare Before Xmas - The best animated musical to come from Disney is also one of those films I can rewatch over and over again, thanks to its great animation, music, and timing.

3. The Incredibles - Forget Spider-Man 2 and The Dark Knight. The best superhero film ever made wasn't a comic book adaptation, but an original creation from the collaboration of Brad Bird and Pixar.

2. Wall-E - This was one of those movies I just knew would be a classic before even seeing it. Then I saw it, and it lived up to every single one of my hopes.

1. Spirited Away - I've seen this movie far too many times. Yet whenever I end up watching it, I always end up finding something magical.

Honorable Mentions: Waking Life, Toy Story, Sita Sings the Blues, The Lion King, Fantasia, Monsters Inc., Lilo and Stitch, Millenium Actress, Perfect Blue, Paprika, Mindgame, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Triplets of Belleville, Chicken Run, Waltz With Bashir, Kiki's Delivery Service, Castle of Cagliostro, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle

10. Fantasia (2000)- This one isn't as well liked by most people, but the segments were great. My favorites were the Rhapsody in Blue and Pomp and Circumstance segments

9. Triplets of Belleville- Sure, there was little dialogue, but I loved the designs and the animation. The chase scene at the end was pretty funny.

8. The Polar Express- At first, I was turned off by the motion capture, but I warmed up to the cute story, and it found its way into the DVD collection

7. Fantastic Planet- Known as La Planete Sauvage in its original French, it is one of THE MOST bizarre things I've ever seen, live action or animated. I first saw it back in 2001 and loved it ever since.

6. Titan A.E.- This movie doesn't get much love either, but I'm a sucker for sci-fi and animation. I watch it almost every time it comes on one of the movie channels.

5. Who Framed Roger Rabbit- I love the idea of toons and humans interacting. Shame that we haven't seen another movie like it in 21 years (and probably never will)

4. Persepolis- Simple designs used to tell a dramatic story. The rendition of "Eye of the Tiger" is priceless.

3. Ratatoullie- A cute idea that was executed well. I loved the colors, the animation, and the characters, and I like the message at the end.

2. Fantasia (1940)- I love the lush animation put with classical pieces. It introduced me to Igor Stravinsky, one of my favorite composers. The VHS is buried somewhere in my closet.

1. The Incredibles- Loved the superhero parodies and the plot. A lot more entertaining than most superhero movies I've seen.
