You know those scanning cards a lot of store make you sign up to get just so you can have items at the sale prices? Like Safeway's Club Card, Abertson's Preferred card, Rite Aid's Wellness+ card. I have them so I can get the sales and stuff, but I really feel that if an item is on sale it should just be on sale, and I shouldn't have to have some card to be able to get the sale price. From what I understand these cards are used to help the store track your expenses and to see what stuff is purchased the most of from their customers, and as result of letting them do so, they give you the sale prices. But there should be another way for them to do this.
Tonight I was at Safeway getting some things, and the guy behind me told the cashier that he forgot his club card, she asked for his phone number, it was an out of area number (I suppose he was here from out of town) and she tried it 3 different times and the number didn't work. He asked if they had a store card she could scan or any way for him to get the sale, she said that they are not allowed to do that. I then offered to scan my club card for him and she said ok. He said thank you and seemed to really appreciate it. Isn't this just silly though? I can understand the Costco and Sam's Club membership cards where you have to pay a yearly fee to shop there due to the buying in bulk, but that's kinda different.
Your thoughts?
