It was hinted at in a previous thread I started so let's go for it:

What are your thoughts on porn movies and DVRAB?

Is it acceptable? What is acceptable and what is not?

What are the boundaries of good taste? :eek:

Does anyone fully understand what it is legal to watch and what it is not legal to watch? :confused: Where is it acceptable to watch it? Do you care or worry about the legal issues?

Are you or would you be embarrassed to admit to watching porn or do you think the world should "live and let live"? :o

Porn movies, in my opinion, are grossly overpriced exploitation. Not exploitation of the people who appear in them (they are pretty well paid, after all) but exploitation of those members of the public who watch them. A really good film (or play, or book) has character development, a strong plot and is well written. A porn film is likely to fail on all three counts. How can it do otherwise when its characters are there just to bonk each other, the plot is effectively links between the sex scenes and the dialogue consists largely of grunts and squeals? That is not to imply that explicit sex cannot be incorporated in an excellent piece of work. Of course it can, and has been on many occasions - but always as an integral element, not the entire piece.

Each to his or her own, however. No offence to anyone who enjoys them, you are fully entitled to do so (as long as you are old enough).

In response to your questions:

What are the boundaries of good taste? That is for the Government to decide. Personally I would say consenting adults is okay. Nothing that involves children, animals or any form of genuine coersion. By genuine I mean not acted. Filming real incidences of rape etc. is absolutely out.

Does anyone fully understand what it is legal to watch and what it is not legal to watch? Soft porn films, which show virtually nothing except bare female bodies, are regularly shown on channels like Bravo. Rather more explicit, but not hardcore, are shown on the 'adult' channels and can be hired from video shops. It is legal to watch either as long as you are 18. Hardcore R18 films are only available from sex shops and you must be 18 to buy one. All this may change quite soon.

Porn is different for different people, its not based on age, gender, or sexual preference. Whatever turns you on and enjoy at the same time is porn.

For me many of the starlets of the 80s made a film pornographic rather than graphic, Traci LorRAB, Nikki Dial and some French bint that never used the same name in any film.

Now it seems you can tell whos starring by the number of scars under the armpits and the rashes on / near the genitalia, but it could be the cameras have improved in quality .
 
Your right the Government are doing wonders to encourage broadband take up! Ban it on TV, Ban it in normal shops, cut R18s.

Well, perhaps it is for some - but not for all. I doubt they are set up as it all appears random and above board, but watching the myriad of late night programmes on the subject of sex, that has taken over the Channel 4, 5 and some Sky channel scheduling, some 'members of the public' interviewed use it as a form of entertainment or foreplay with their partner.

I guess this could start a whole new debate on the ways in which individuals respond to various stimuli, e.g. Visual, Aural or Kinesthetic? :confused:

Hmm... I'm of the school that porn is perhaps the least of our problems, and I would prefer more flesh on television than I would more violence or bad language.

I think that all sex is acceptable, so long as it is consentual.

The boundary is an imaginary one that varies between each person. I think that very few bounaries have been crossed in mainstream pornography and TV, whilst most other 'taboos' have been broadcast more than once on terrestrial stations.

Legal to watch in own home - to show it, for instance, projected in the middle of the town square would be considered an act of 'indecent exposure'.

...and I suppose your sexual awakenings came from reading the Bible then...;) :D
 
I can't really offer any opinion on the 'standard' of porn since I don't really use it. (No really, it just isn't my thing, I guess I'm just under voyueristic) However it is massively incongruous that when we can allow people to actually have sex at 16 and people are increasingly doing so at much younger ages but they can't watch people having sex for another two years. I mean, does that require 16 year olRAB to cover all nearby mirrors just in case? It's a very bizarre situation.

However at least we're not as schizo about it as the yanks. The US porn industry is worth billions but if Janet Jackson shows her chest on TV it's a major scandal? Bonkers (no pun intended).

Jenna's been in the business so long, and she's had so many things done to her body, nobody is that interested i n her at all now.

Buying porn in the UK is generally considered, nornal price are about
