Do you think words lose their value when overused in poetry?

Example: Abyss, I stopped using that word recently.

We call them cliches, and yes, they lose their power with use.

Most overused words/phrases:

Love
Death
Blood
Pain
Anything dealing with nature

Those were more ideas, but ideas create words and vice versa.

Words like love, death, sweet, etc... are used a great deal, perhaps because they constitute important parts of our relationship to the world, and to others. Some other words were very popular in Renaissance poetry that are rarely used today, even though they still are common enough components of the language, so diction is also culturally conditioned. My only complaint is when poets habitually make trite rhymes rather than working for something more novel, more piercing. Frankly, I'd rather see a blank verse or free verse offering that was well constructed. Have I even begun to answer your question?

Well you know until I wrote it I had never seen it used in poetry but today for example I have seen it four times once in my poem once on Y!A and two times in my 'friends' poems. (I made them change it for fear of an empending nose job.)
It is I crumble or crumble or we crumble

sure may say way so many

When I was invited to CANADA they told me……………

‘’ CANADA IS CALLING ME’’

Be bold, it’s not so cold ,as you wont it to be,

Have your journey from wherever you be,
Come to Canada and for yourself see,
The beauty that nature does grant ,
The lovely feelings of love the Canadians supplant ,

Be bold it’s the best of summers,
Yes the best of winters too and spring..
As for autumn there is no comparison
In the cloudy weather and morning dew,
Its lovely weather for all of you.

There is plenty of water, hot and cold
There is no failure of electricity I was told ,
And there is plenty to eat, drink and be merry,
Enjoy strawberries, peaches and the best of cherry,

Come to Canada its not so cold, be bold.

Just as I was about to land,
The welcome I thought will be with a band.
They came, to receive me, I was really happy,
But the arrival was none, that too snappy.
It was so warm there was no storm,
And the people all around were kind,
Of my youth they all did me remind .

Come to Canada be bold, it’s not so, very, very cold.

I stepped out of the air- port,
The brightness was all sun – shone,
And after another moment it was all gone.
When I landed there was no cloud,
The Canadians were, ever so proud.
Suddenly they came from somewhere,
Heaven really knows from where.

A little more up the highway it began to rain,
I thought it was some passing train.
And to prevent the shiver, the car was on Heat,
Ere I wanted to already quickly retreat.

Come to Canada be bold, it’s lovely warm and not so cold.

As I entered the room for my nights’ stay
There was warmth all, all the way.
And then truly I was happy to be in Canada,
After all 'twas warm and sunny, even in the veranda.
