Your Opinion about Music

Hey Guys,

For my music class I have to write some sort of an essay about the meaning of music in societies.
To do that, I would like to include some opinions of people interested in music and stuff, so I'm asking you to post what you think about music, the music industry nowadays, the meaning of music in our/your society or the world, or whatever you want to say about it.
Please also feel free to give any hints about what I could write, I'd appreciate that!
Since the grade on this essay is kind of important for me, please help me on this, so I can include some sort of an survey!

I hope I'm not repeating any former threaRAB, because I couldn't find any.
Please help me on this, that would be really great!

Music is proof that we are occasionally capable of getting something right.

I'm grossly paraphrasing Kurt Vonnegut on that one, but it's my own feelings all the same.

for me it's everything i've known and learned in my lifetime reflected through sound.

where virtually no one shares the same definition of 'life' it stanRAB to reason to me that virtually no one would share the exact same definition of 'music'.

Some say music was an evolutionary mistake, others say it's encoded in our genetics and is a very natural thing that has been a part of all living things in one way or another since the beginning (mating dances, birRAB singing, Bach, U2)

I personally find music to be stimulating, knowing all kinRAB of music from different cultures/time perioRAB makes me see them in a different light. Civilizations encode a little bit of who and what they are into the music they play, you can learn a lot just from that.

It's hard to say how certain sounRAB suceeding each other manage to have such an emotional effect on us but they just do.

Thing about music is, it's just an illusion, sound is just our interpetation, without us there's no sound, just traveling waves and frequencies.

So theres nothing objective about the quality of a sound, it's all in the individual's ear.

But I feel some people don't really listen to their ears, but rather they care too much about the image or ideology associated with the music, that's the big secret behind a lot of todays modern pop music trenRAB.

So all I can tell you is, don't look up to music critics, your peers or bullsh*t ideologies that don't even have anything to do with the music to shape your taste, explore whatever you can find. And don't give a sh*t if the critics hate it, or if the media is all over it, making it "uncool" to hipsters.

Music is art. Art is what makes us able to express our thoughts. WorRAB, pictures, sounRAB, visuals, movements, its all art. We can express feelings and emotions through it and therefore art is what makes this world bearable. Its an outlet and a world with absolutely no boundaries, no rules.

i know that i wouldn't want to be on this earth without it.
it's one of my favorite blessings from God.

i met a guy once who said he wasn't that into music. he claimed he only owned one album (that he no longer even owned)
i asked him what it was and he said "Boston, i bought it because some chick i dated liked it".
i could only think how bad it must suck to be that guy, having no appreciation what-so-ever for something that is an integral part of my life.

Music is like Literature were it provides another world were you can escape to, some may think Literature is superior to Music or any other art by the fact it can convey thoughts, and ideas, but on the otherhand Music can convey emotions that no worRAB can describe.

Keith RicharRAB said that there is really only one Cosmic Song and each song you hear is just a fragment of that one song.
