Here are my top three favorite episodes from Season 13.
3. "Whale Whores" - I feared this episode would of just been another Randy goes crazy ep and has everyone rally behind him against the Japanese and that Whale Wars would of been satrized as being too extreme. I was so glad to be proven wrong though: Instead we got to see Stan take a focal charge and actually do a lot instead of just get annoyed at the sidelines by attacking the japanese and stopping them from killing whales while everyone just focuses on how the ratings of his TV show are. There are a lot of great things about this ep (Random Japanese yelling, Cartman and Kenny's greed, the boys in prision and the ending, plus let's not forget one of the best uses of "Poker Face" ever in something) but the best thing is that it has a lot in it so it dosen't feel like one joke. It dosen't become all about whale murdering, or Whales Wars not being hardcore, or a japanese history lesson. It moves it's plot points well so nothing ends up getting stagnent which is something a lot of other SP eps need to learn how to do.
2. "Fatbeard" - The closest this season got to a Kyle vs Cartman ep. However really only the ending and beginning are Kyle vs Cartman. The rest are just adventures of Cartman's pirate crew and Kyle's drive to save Ike once he becomes one of Cartman's bucaneers. Unlike some eps the group here is well chosen as everyone gets to contribute in the crew: Cartman has his usual fun lines (and "the ****" is one of his better running lines), Butters has some good bits, Ike gets to admit he's an ass****, Clyde has some greatly timed crying, and even Kevin gets to scare off some Frenchmen with a laser saber. This ep while having a good message at the end was also just a general adventure ep. Just the boys going out and being pirates even if most of them learn that being pirates in Somila nowadays isn't really fun at all. Still just an all around amusing ep though and that's what pirate adventures should be: amusing intresting fun times. Which puts this ep up there with One Piece and some of those Pirate of the Carbbean movies. So what could top this one?
1. "The Coon" -First off I have to say it: just imagining Cartman talking as a Christian Bale esque superhero is worth the price of admission alone. It's just so funny to hear that I wouldn't of minded if he sounded like that throughout the entire show instead of just interpeced between the ep. I'm also drawn to superheroes and since The Dark Knight and Watchmen were great movies I actually saw I wanted to see SP take a crack at them and was not disappinted. Let's not forget the great continuity with the mentions of the Hilton hotel and the return of everyone's favorite SP Supervillian Professor Chaos. And finally we acutally had a good mystery on who was Mysterion. And the reveal was also good: yeah we don't know who it exactly is but that was the entire point. Besides it's so obvious it was Kenny... or Craig... or Clyde... or Stan. Yeah still not too sure myself personally but all the same good stuff. I wouldn't mind seeing more of the Coon but for what it's worth he defintley propelled himself to the top of the charts much like the Dark Knight topped all the box office charts, before the Smurfs came in that is (BTW "Dances With Smurfs" is a good ep but the beginning is a bit to slow for my tastes. It is defintley one of the better eps of season 13, no doubt about that).
BTW Season 14's premiere has been revealed: It involves the Tiger Woods scandal and some of the boys of SP being disagonsed as sex addicts. Should hopefully be good.
